Third Thursday Dinner and bonus brunch: January 2019
This month we gathered twice. There was a tiny and intimate dinner party of 5 featuring chimichuri steak and red velvet short bread.
Then we had a friend in town and had a roaring brunch which lasted hours and hours and was so very delicious.
The ingredient of the month was butter, so really how can one possibly go wrong at all with anything served at the table.
I chose butter because in leaner times and days this time of the year in the north is starting to feel very scarce and healthy fats are what helped our ancestors survive the long nights and short days of January. Butter gets a bad rap but really it is one of the most simple and beautiful ingredients, like salt or olive oil it has the magic to transform bland food into a culinary delight.
There were also TWO kinds of tiramisu because my dear friend Sarah was visiting from Chicago and her favorite thing in the world is tiramisu. Also it was our combined birthday party so we got to get what we want and over indulge a bit.
I think the most beautiful thing on the menu was a tie between the tiramisu cheese cake thing and the citrus tart.
you guys there was even a rose in the yard to sprinkle the petals on the tart!
